History of the Hockey-Thon
Shortly after former Condors/ Fog defenseman Kevin Barrett lost his
mother to inflammatory breast cancer, he came up with the idea for the
Hockey-thon, a 27 hour ice-hockey marathon. Local players of all ages
and skill levels would skate through the night and fill the time between
two Condors games to raise money for breast cancer
Barrett contacted his former team, and on March 25, 2005 the first
Hockey-thon commenced. A total of 90 local players took the ice and
the event raised $23,381.70 for Links for Life, a local breast cancer
resource center. The event concluded with a Condors Legends and
Celebrity Game that featured many former Professional players and
local media to bring awareness to this great cause.
On December 30, 2005 the 2nd Annual Hockey-thon began with many
familiar faces and some new ones. Throughout the night and all day
New Year’s Eve players skated their hearts out, and raised another
$20,384.77 for breast cancer.
